Barbados Museum & Historical Society in collaboration with Scotiabank launch the Independence Art Competition

A short presentation ceremony was held at the Barbados Museum & Historical Society (BMHS) on Wednesday, 29 March 2017 to announce the winners of the Scotiabank Independence Art Competition. The competition was officially launched in January 2016 to give school aged children an opportunity to portray through art what the “50th anniversary of Independence means to you.”

Winners, their families and teachers were on hand to receive their prizes at the ceremony. Representative from title sponsor Scotiabank, Ms. Sherri Cumberbatch highlighted that the quality of work on display was very impressive. She also noted that although they [Scotiabank] would have hoped to see many more pieces, the time invested in the projects and developing skills in the young artists was obvious in the detail of the works submitted.

Allison Callender, the curator assigned to this Exhibition in her brief statement highlighted that she first wanted to thank Scotiabank for their generosity in supporting the Independence Art Competition and also extended thanks to the parents and teachers who encouraged the young students to submit the work.
